Warning that business is afraid of President Obama's policies, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., joined ABC's This Week for a roundtable discussion on Sunday to discuss the sluggish economic recovery and the presidential race.

The latest figures show the economy added a meager 96,000 jobs in August and that unemployment fell to 8.1 percent because 368,000 people quit looking for work. The panelist on This Week centered on Mr. Obama's record and the lack of specifics offered by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to fix the economy.

A noticeable disagreement was between Paul and New York Times columnist and economist Paul Krugman on whether public sector jobs have increased or not since Mr. Obama took office.

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul is worried that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will not have enough Electoral College votes to beat President Obama this fall.

National polls show the race is a statistical tie in a popular vote with a slim margin of undecided voters, but the winner of the White House is the candidate who captures 270 electoral votes. A review of most interactive maps show Mr. Obama edging out Romney in November by winning key swing states.

Paul says there are a handful of states that are evenly divided and Romney will have to win most of them, adding the GOP will have to examine its electoral map strategy in future races.

"It’s tougher and tougher for Republicans because we don’t compete very well in the west coast (and) we don’t compete very well New England. Once you give up all those votes then you got to win pretty much the rest of the country," he says. "And that’s one of the messages I’ve had to the national Republican Party. You know what? Those areas where you’re not competing maybe a libertarian Republican would do better in California or New York state."

Unlike their GOP counterparts, zero Kentucky officials will be taking the main stage to speak at this week’s Democratic National Convention.

Democrats hold the majority of statewide offices in Kentucky, including the governor’s office. But that’s not enough to get any of those elected officials onto the DNC stage this week.

Last week, Republicans heard from three Kentuckians during their convention: Senators Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul and congressional candidate Andy Barr.

Kentucky may not be a key state in this fall’s presidential election, but its two senators played a key role in GOP attacks on the president Wednesday night. Senators Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul spoke back to back at the Republican National Convention. Their speeches were a one-two punch against many of President Barack Obama's policies.
