U.S. Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky. is scolding colleagues for grilling Apple executives

Republican U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky blasted Democratic lawmakers for calling on Apple Inc.'s chief executive to testify over moving assets offshore to avoid taxes.

Apple CEO Tim Cook was called to testify before a Senate panel on Tuesday over claims the technology company is exploiting loopholes to avoid paying billions of dollars in taxes.

A report compiled by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations found Apple is holding around $102 billion of its $145 billion in profits overseas while using technicalities to avoid any levies.

Potential Republican Challenger to Mitch McConnell Expanding Outreach to Kentucky Tea Party

A Louisville businessman exploring a Republican primary against U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is setting up meetings with Tea Party groups in Central Kentucky.

David Adams, a tea party activist from Central Kentucky, said he's planning to meet with Bevin next week in Lexington with other activists to familiarize themselves with Matt Bevin, the possible Republican Senate candidate and a Louisvillian who runs the Connecticut-based Bevin Brothers Manufacturing.

Former Sen. Lugar Joins IU Faculty

Former Sen. Richard Lugar will join former Congressman Lee Hamilton as a professor in Indiana University's new School of Global and International Studies.

The pairing announced Thursday in Bloomington gives the school two of the foremost U.S. authorities on foreign relations.

The Herald-Times reports Lugar also will donate his Senate papers to the Herman B Wells Library on the Bloomington campus.

Lugar to Become University Lecturer, Lead Internship Program

U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana will continue wielding influence in Washington after he leaves office, but with a much younger audience.

Lugar is starting an internship program with the University of Indianapolis that will operate out of Washington. He has also agreed to deliver a handful of lectures each year as a distinguished professor at the private university.

The 80 year old Lugar will split his time between Washington and Indianapolis in the new job.
