Actor's Choice opened Suzan-Lori Parks' Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Topdog/Underdog" Thursday in the Henry Clay Theatre. Directed by Kathi E.B. Ellis, this tense, finely-acted two-hander explores the relationship between two adult brothers, Lincoln and Booth, as they struggle with a legacy of abandonment by their parents, masculine identity, racism and the lure of a life of crime.

On our audio diary series The Big Break, two of our artists stretch their artistic muscles in rehearsal this week. Louisville Ballet trainee Claire Horrocks finds the most difficult work in her upcoming Choreographer Showcase is a contemporary dance, because she has focused so intently on ballet movements since she started college. Actors Theatre of Louisville apprentice Samantha Beach takes to the air in rehearsals for the Humana Festival apprentice showcase "Sleep Rock Thy Brain," a collection of one-act plays that all feature flying—as in, strap the actors into harnesses, hoist them high and let them act in mid-air—as a metaphor for sleep.

Savage Rose Announces Season of Storms

Savage Rose Classical Theatre Company has announced its 2013-14 season, which artistic director J. Barrett Cooper is calling "our season of storms." The next season, which begins in November with the Slant Culture Theatre Festival, is a tribute to William Shakespeare, with full productions of "Twelfth Night," "King Lear" and "The Tempest" planned. 

"We believe Shakespeare is the greatest playwright to have lived, and the spark that lit the fire of all playwrights to come after him," Cooper said at a season release celebration Sunday night.
