Winter Weather is Coming; JCPS Cancels After-School Activities Because of Snow Threat

With the potential for bursts of snow, Louisville and the surrounding area are under a winter weather advisory until 2 a.m. Friday. Because of this, Jefferson County Public Schools is canceling all after-school activities  for Thursday evening.

Louisville has a 50-percent chance of snow before 5 p.m., which could lead to accumulation of less than a half-inch, the National Weather Service said. Snow showers are likely Thursday night—between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.—and could bring as much as an inch of accumulated snow.

Early Morning Storm Causes Widespread Power Outages

Updated: More than 3,000 Louisville Gas & Electric customers in Jefferson County were without power early Wednesday morning after a thunderstorm pass through the Louisville area, prompting a tornado warning that expired at 4:55 a.m.

A few trees were reported toppled in the Pleasure Ridge Park area, said a supervisor for MetroSafe, citing preliminary reports.

Tornado Watch in Effect for Louisville Area Until 5:00 AM

 A tornado watch is in effect until 5:00 am for Jefferson County and the surrounding area. This means the conditions could be favorable for a tornado sometime during the watch period. The National Weather Service predicts severe storms will begin around 3:00 am. Rain and strong winds are expected.

Strong Winds, Storms Expected in Louisville; JCPS Cautions of Possible Morning Bus Delays

Strong winds and severe storms—and maybe even an isolated tornado—are expected in the Louisville area Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service said.

A wind advisory has been issued for Jefferson County and surrounding counties in Kentucky and Indiana, effective from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
