ESPN: Rick Pitino to Join Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame

Louisville Cardinals men's basketball coach Rick Pitino will join the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, joining his predecessor Denny Crum, ESPN is reporting.

The announcement for the 2013 Hall of Fame class will be made Monday, ESPN added.

Pitino was nominated in 2012 but was not elected.

Rick Pitino: Kevin Ware Expected to Join Louisville Cardinals for Final Four

Injured guard Kevin Ware is doing well the day after breaking his right leg in a Final Four game against the Duke Blue Devils, Coach Rick Pitino said on Monday.


"He's up and about—he's actually on crutches walking," Pitino said. "They want his blood flowing. The only thing they're concerned about at this point in the next 48 hours because the bone comes out of the skin they're concerned about a five or ten percent chance of infection. If no infection takes place, they'll be very excited."

With the NCAA's Top Seed, Pitino's Cards Set Sights on Next Goal

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino says his team has worked hard to earn its top overall seed in the NCAA tournament, but the Cards are not dwelling on the designation.

Pitino says its one of many steps toward the ultimate goal of winning a national championship.

"When we lost three in a row, we set goals.   We set regular season goals, we set tournament goals, we set seeding goals.  Now you go on to your next goal.  Until it ends, you just keep putting forth goals to your basketball team," Pitino said today.

Pitino Again a Finalist for Basketball Hall of Fame

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino is once again a finalist for election to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Pitino is among 12 finalists for the Class of 2013; others include former players Tim Hardaway and Gary Payton, and former coaches Jerry Tarkanian and Guy Lewis.

The U of L coach, who has taken three different schools to the Final Four and won a championship at Kentucky in 1996, was also a finalist last year but did not make the final cut.

College Basketball: Cards Visit Seton Hall; Behanan Out With Ankle Injury

After a week off, the third-ranked Louisville Cardinals return to the basketball court tomorrow with a visit to Seton Hall.

U of L will have to play without forward Chane Behanan. The Cards’ leading rebounder will be sidelined for up to ten days with an ankle sprain suffered in practice Monday.

This is the Cards’ first Big East road game in what coach Rick Pitino promises will be an unpredictable conference run.
