Now on WFPL...Your Music

Remember a few weeks ago, when we asked local musicians to submit instrumental music for us to play in between stories, segments and shows on WFPL?

You responded. 

We had over 100 submissions. We've been digging through them for the last few weeks, and we have come up with a steady rotation of local music beds, which are now airing on WFPL. Tune in. You'll hear them throughout the day.

WFPL Wants (Needs?) Local Music for Station Breaks

Even Devin Katayama is writing music for WFPL.

Hey, Louisville. WFPL loves local music, and we want to feature more of it on air. No, we're not taking on our beloved sister station, WFPK. We're looking for fresh songs to play in between news segments and shows throughout the day.

You know the music we use. You've been hearing it for years. It's the acoustic guitar riff that plays right after Ira Glass signs off, or that synth-and-drums number you hear underneath the credits on Sunday afternoons.

Byline: Music City Hit-Makers with the Louisville Orchestra

Songwriters Brett James, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson with their Grammy Award for "Jesus, Take the Wheel," recorded by Carrie Underwood.

On today's Byline, I welcomed Grammy Award-winning songwriter Brett James and composer Charlie Judge, two of the members of the Music City Hit-Makers team. James has written songs for Kenny Chesney ("Out Last Night," "When the Sun Goes Down") and Carrie Underwood (including the Grammy Award-winner "Jesus, Take the Wheel"), as well as Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Tim McGraw and dozens of other chart-topping artists.

Forecastle Pre-Sale Begins This Week

Tickets for the annual Forecastle Festival in Louisville go on sale Friday. A limited number of $100 three-day  passes will be available on the Forecastle website at noon. All other ticketing options, including VIP tickets and single-day passes, will go on sale at a later date.

This year's Forecastle Festival will be held July 12-14 at Waterfront Park. The festival line-up has not yet been released.
