The Louisville Orchestra named arts consultant and orchestra veteran David Hyslop interim CEO at a board of directors meeting today. Hyslop will serve as interim CEO while the Orchestra conducts a national search. Current CEO Robert Birman announced his resignation earlier this month. Birman's last day in office will be Friday, after which Hyslop will begin his interim term.

Louisville Orchestra CEO Robert Birman will leave his post at the end of this month. The orchestra announced his resignation Saturday morning.

“I leave on a high note,” says Birman. “I’m very proud of the players and my board and my staff. Everybody is pulling in one direction, and for that reason I thought this was an appropriate time to make this announcement.”

The Louisville Orchestra welcomes guest conductor Ryan McAdams to the Kentucky Center this weekend, and a familiar face from the wind section will also take the spotlight. 

McAdams will lead the Orchestra in Friday’s performance, which includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherezade,” inspired by the classic tales of “1001 Arabian Nights,” and the Louisville premiere of Osvaldo Golijov’s “Sidereus,” a nine-minute overture commissioned by a consortium of 35 orchestras.

The Louisville Orchestra will thank its donors with a special concert on December 5 at the Brown Theatre. The program is free for supporters of the season, but all are welcome to make a donation at the door in lieu of tickets. Led by music director Jorge Mester, the program will feature Gioachino Rossini's Overture to The Barber of Seville, Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor and Wolfgang Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G Minor.
