It's Official: Pitino to be Inducted Into Basketball Hall of Fame

Rick Pitino, who will coach Louisville in the NCAA championship game tonight, is among seven people elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. 

The list of inductees was formally announced today.      

Joining Pitino in the class of 2013 are former NBA stars Bernard King and Gary Payton, former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian, North Carolina women's coach Sylvia Hatchell, former University of Houston coach Guy Lewis, former University of Virginia star Dawn Staley. 

The inductions will take place in Springfield, Mass. in September.

Denny Crum on Louisville Cardinals' Titles in the '80s: 'It Was a Beautiful Thing'

The Louisville men's basketball team plays for a national championship tonight—the program's first appearance in the title game since 1986. 

Denny Crum, the coach of the 1986 and 1980 championship teams, is in Atlanta for the Final Four. Naismith Hall of Fame coach retired in 2003. As this year's Cardinals prepare to play Michigan, Crum took a few moments to reflect with WFPL on what championships mean for the university and the city.

Louisville Cardinals to Play for Women's National Championship

The University of Louisville women’s basketball team has joined the men’s program in playing for a NCAA championship this week.

Antonita Slaughter led the fifth-seeded Cards with 18 points as U of L advanced to the title game with a 64-57 comeback victory tonight over number two seed California.

U of L will face Connecticut for the women’s championship Tuesday in New Orleans.  The Huskies defeated Notre Dame in the other national semifinal.

For Some Louisville Cardinals Fans, Two Final Four Teams Means Twice the Travel

ATLANTA — The Louisville Cardinals men's basketball team will play in the NCAA tournament's title game Monday night against the Michigan Wolverines at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. And in New Orleans tonight, the Cardinal women’s basketball team plays California in a semifinal.

A few ambitious Cardinal fans will be in the audience for both games.
