Old Cardinal Stadium Grandstands Too Deteriorated to Use for Kentucky State Fair

The grandstands of Cardinal Stadium—the old one—have deteriorated to a point where repairs aren't cost effective, the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center announced Friday.

Because of this, the free concerts for this year's Kentucky State Fair will be moved entirely to the field.

"Without that repair, it just simply wouldn't be in our best interest to have people in the grandstands in the future," said Rip Rippetoe, president and chief executive of the Kentucky State Fair Board.

State Fair Board Approves Budget For Fiscal 2013

The Kentucky State Fair Board has approved its operating budget for fiscal 2013 that includes a projected deficit of more than $5.4 million.

Business First reports that the budget was approved during Thursday' monthly fair board meeting.

The budget forecasts a net income of more than 476-thousand dollars but also projects nearly $3.7 million in capital expenses and $2.3 million in construction expenses.
