Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson was awarded the 2013 Public Leadership in Energy and Environmental Steward Award at an annual meeting of the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association in Washington, D.C.

The award was presented by General Electric, a company with which Abramson worked extensively during his years as Louisville’s mayor. From the press release:

Joined by Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson, the Kentucky Habitat for Humanity foundation celebrated their 20th year of service in the commonwealth with a Capitol rally.

Founded in 1993, Kentucky Habitat for Humanity works with affiliations across the state to build homes in much needed areas. They also have helped rebuild West Liberty and other affected areas from the March 2012 tornadoes.

In a brief speech, Abramson praised the organization for its tireless work statewide.

Kentucky lawmakers seemed eager to dig into another tax reform bill this year, but the chair of the latest tax reform commission says reform isn't likely coming soon.

Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson—who chaired the commission—and Mary Lassiter, the secretary of the cabinet, addressed lawmakers on the budget committees about the recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Tax Commission.

The Kentucky House speaker said the commission charged with proposing changes to Kentucky's tax code is "backing away" from controversial issues.

House Speaker Greg Stumbo said in a recent interview that the Blue Ribbon Commission on Tax Reform needs to be bolder. He said the appointed commissioners are approaching the tax code issues as if they have political capital to lose, refusing to offer new ideas.

He also encouraged the commission memebers to spend their remaining time productively.
