In His Second Term, How Will Obama Approach Fossil Fuels?

For the past four years, officials in Kentucky’s coal industry have fought President Obama’s steps to further regulate emissions from coal plants and pollution from coal mining. Now that the president has won re-election, they wonder if anything will change in a second term.

President Obama’s administration has put into motion numerous regulations that affect the coal industry. But many of these aren’t actually in effect yet…they’re still moving through the rule making process, or are tied up in court.

Republicans Pick Up Seats in Kentucky House, Fall Short of Majority

Overall, Tuesday provided a great night for Kentucky Republicans, who narrowed their minority Kentucky House of Representatives.

But the GOP fell well short of their goal of winning 10 seats and taking control of the state House. 

Even though they remain the minority, GOP spokesman Joe Burgan says his party has reason to celebrate.

John Yarmuth Cruises to Victory

Democratic Rep. John Yarmuth has won re-election by 30 percentage points over Republican challenger Brooks Wicker in the Third Congressional District race.

Wicker had struggled throughout the race to raise money for the campaign and didn’t run any TV ads. The race was never considered close, and observers argue the wide margin this year makes Yarmuth tougher to beat in future elections.

Yarmuth says he hopes the message of the race is that he listens to constituents but is able to explain how policies in Washington affect their lives.
