Pence Names Three to Cabinet Posts

Indiana Governor-elect Mike Pence has announced three cabinet appointments.

All three appointees work in the current administration of Governor Mitch Daniels.

Pence announced today that Ron Wynkoop will continue as commissioner of the Department of Administration and Mike Alley will stay on as commissioner of the Department of Revenue.

Anita Samuel, who has been serving as Daniels’ general counsel, will become director of the Department of Personnel in the Pence Administration.

Pence will be publicly sworn in as Indiana’s next governor on January 14.

Daniels Announces Hoosier Tax Credits

Indiana taxpayers will receive a $111 credit on their state income tax returns next year as the state distributes part of its budget surplus.

Gov. Mitch Daniels announced the credit today.

It will be $222 for couples filing joint returns. The credit represents the automatic taxpayer refund plan that Daniels pushed through the state legislature last year.

Daniels Meeting With Purdue University Faculty

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is spending two days on the Purdue University campus this week meeting with faculty members ahead of becoming the school's president in January.

Daniels is taking part in forums through Wednesday on the West Lafayette campus with professors and others from eight of Purdue's colleges. Meetings with other colleges are planned for October, according to the West Lafayette Journal and Courier.

Daniels: State To Have $2 Billion Reserve; Taxpayer Refunds Coming

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is touting state cash reserves he says will send more than  $100 to each Indiana taxpayer through automatic tax credits next year.

Daniels said today he expects the state to close its books for the fiscal year with $2 billion in cash reserves.

Roughly $300 million will go to 2013's tax credits and another $300 million will go toward the state's unfunded teacher pension liability.

Purdue Trustees to Vote on Presidential Nominee Thursday

The Purdue University Board of Trustees will vote tomorrow  morning on the nominee to become the school’s 12thpresident.

The job is expected to go to Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.

Neither Daniels nor the university will comment publicly about the appointment, but sources have told the Indianapolis Star and WISH-TV that Daniels will take over the post being vacated by France Cordova, who’s retiring. 

Daniels declined to answer questions from reporters Wednesday morning about his future following an economic development announcement event in Indianapolis.
