There’s a new push on for healthier school food across the country, in the form of a new law called the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, aimed at updating nutrition standards in the National School Lunch Program. WFPL to Hold JCPS School Board Debates

The ballots for the school board races this fall are set and Jefferson County Public Schools has one of the largest candidate pools in recent history.

A total of 15 candidates are vying for three school board seats (districts 2, 4, and 7) and many say bettering student performance is a top priority, but how that's accomplished can be argued.

Ramsey Says U of L Growing, But Laments Drop In Government Support

University of Louisville President James Ramsey says his institution and higher education in general face an uncertain future as long as government funding continues to be slashed.

Ramsey delivered his annual State of the University address today.

He says while U of L has seen growth over the past year at its Belknap, Shelby and Health Sciences campuses, there have been some setbacks, including another cut in state funding that forced a tuition increase.

UK's Capilouto Gets Good Marks, But No Bonus

University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto has received a mostly positive review after a year on the job but won't receive a performance bonus. That word was made official by UK Board of Trustees Chair Britt Brockman.

"We decided that he deserved a bonus for extraordinary performance. However, based upon the economy and discussions with the president, we both decided, mutually, that we wouldn’t award the bonus. And I think that speaks volumes to his personality and his character as well,"  Brockman said today.
