Poll: McConnell in Close Races With Potential Opponents

A new poll shows Sen. Mitch McConnell with a precarious lead over potential Democratic challengers.

The survey from Public Policy Polling shows McConnell with a four point lead over Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes—45 to 41—and a five point lead over former Congressman Ben Chandler.

Despite the leads, McConnell polls below the 50 percent mark in both races. And it shows he only has an 11 point lead over contractor Ed Marksberry, 46 to 35.

Jack Conway: Kentucky Democrats Suffer No Long-Term Damage After Ben Chandler Loss

Democratic Rep. Ben Chandler's defeat in his re-election bid Tuesday  won't  hinder the Kentucky Democratic Party in future years, a party leader said.

But Attorney General Jack Conway also said he’s upset that Kentucky will have only one Democratic congressman for the next two years -- Rep. John Yarmuth in the Third District.

Paul Endorses Barr in Sixth District Race

U.S. Senator Rand Paul has endorsed Republican Andy Barr in the Sixth District congressional race.

Paul announced the endorsement Monday after a chamber of commerce luncheon in Winchester. Barr is challenging Democratic U.S. Rep Ben Chandler in the Nov. 6 general election. It is the Lexington attorney's second time running against Chandler. Barr lost to Chandler in a squeaker two years ago.

Paul says he supports Barr because he is willing to cut spending.

Chandler's Presence in Fancy Farm Audience Draws Questions About His Future Plans

While the biggest ticket at every Fancy Farm political picnic is the speaking, the after the picnic chatter revolves around whoever was working the crowd.

One surprise this year was Congressman Ben Chandler, who’s locked into another re-election fight in his Central Kentucky district, miles away from Fancy Farm.

Kentucky Public Radio caught up with Chandler at the grounds, where he said he was just visiting with friends for the weekend.
