With the NCAA's Top Seed, Pitino's Cards Set Sights on Next Goal

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino says his team has worked hard to earn its top overall seed in the NCAA tournament, but the Cards are not dwelling on the designation.

Pitino says its one of many steps toward the ultimate goal of winning a national championship.

"When we lost three in a row, we set goals.   We set regular season goals, we set tournament goals, we set seeding goals.  Now you go on to your next goal.  Until it ends, you just keep putting forth goals to your basketball team," Pitino said today.

U of L, UK Begin Play Sunday in Women's NCAA Tournament

The pairings are set for the women’s NCAA basketball tournament.

The Louisville Cards will face Middle Tennessee State Sunday in opening round play at the KFC Yum Center.     U of L is seeded fifth in its region.     If the Cards win they’ll take on either Dayton or St. Johns in the second round.

The Kentucky Wildcats are a number two seed and will take on Navy Sunday in Queens, New York.   If UK advances, the Wildcats will face either Purdue or Liberty in second round play.

Kentucky Wildcats' Fate Unclear After Upset Loss in SEC Tournament

The hopes for the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team to defend their national championship took a hit Friday night when the team lost in their first game of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

The Wildcats lost 64 -48 to the Vanderbilt Commodores and go into Selection Sunday with a 21-11 record.

Freshman forward Willie Cauley-Stein led the Wildcats with seven points and nine rebounds.

The Wildcats were the SEC Tournament’s No. 2 seed. The Commodores were the tournament’s No. 10 seed.
