Amazon Expands Jeffersonville Fullfillment Center, Jobs to Follow

More jobs could be coming to Jeffersonville’s River Ridge Commerce Center following the announcement from Internet retail giant Amazon, which plans to expand its operations there over the next several months.

When Indiana’s fifth and largest Amazon fulfillment center opened last fall, it employed between 600 to 800 people, with the potential to hire more.

Jeffersonville's Amazon Opens: Eyes On Traffic, Future Investments

Mayor Mike Moore says he expects Amazon and the bridges project will encourage more investment in the Ridge Ridge Commerce Center.

Indiana’s fifth Amazon Distribution Center opened in Jeffersonville this week and officials say while the facilities begin stocking shelves they'll be keeping an eye on traffic in the area.

The $150 million facility is currently employing between 600 to 800 employees on two shifts and that may increase during the holidays, said Mayor Mike Moore.

“Of course this is great news for the city of Jeff to have Amazon come, but there are more issues that we’re going to be dealing with and we’re going to get a little bit more every day, find out what needs to be done," he said.

Amazon Sets Up in Kentuckiana for Quick Delivery

While online retailer Amazon prepares to open a major distribution center in Southern Indiana, some say the company could soon begin offering customers in the Louisville region same-day delivery.

Until recently, Amazon has avoided charging sales tax to customers in many states where it had no physical presence. Now, the company has given into that fight and has made deals in states like Indiana to begin charging that tax in the next couple years.
