Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen on Wednesday accepted the Jefferson County Public Schools’ request to audit the school district.

Edelen was joined by JCPS board members, Superintendent Donna Hargens and Mayor Greg Fischer in announcing details of the audit which was approved by the board this week, following a recommendation from the superintendent.

Kentucky Auditor Adam Edelen found a dozen issues with the state's cyber security efforts in the 2011-12 fiscal year—and he's vowing to closely monitor the state's measures in that area in the coming months.

The findings were reported in Edelen's statewide audit, in which he gave the state an "unqualified or clean" opinion of the state's finances.

Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen will continue to do special audits of school districts, after three turned up a variety of issues.

Reviewing education funding was one of Edelen's campaign promises last year. And so far, he’s made good by auditing Kenton, Mason and Breathitt County school districts. Those reports found poor documentation of funds and occasional misspending.
