JCPS Board Races Draw 17 Candidates

Three new JCPS board members will be elected to the seven member board on Nov. 6.

This fall's Jefferson County Board of Education election will have one of the largest candidate pools in  recent history after eight more candidates filed before Tuesday's deadline.

A total of 17 candidates have filed to run for three seats being vacated by JCPS board members this year. Five are vying in Steve Imhoff’s District 2, five in Larry Hujo’s District 7 and seven in Joe Hardesty’s District 4.

The candidates run the gamut from well known public figures to a concerned parent who wants to change the district’s student assignment plan.

Kentucky Republicans Campaign Around Stumbo's Support for President Obama

Kentucky Republicans are ramping up their campaign to take control of the state house in this year's elections. 

The GOP has latched on to House Speaker Greg Stumbo's declaration that he will vote for President Barack Obama this fall.

Republicans are circulating video of the comments and asking for donations, but money isn't the main goal.

Luallen Says She Won't Run Against McConnell

Credit Luallen for Auditor campaign

Former Auditor Crit Luallen says she will not challenge Republican U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell in 2014.

Luallen has long been considered to be among the best-situated Democrats to unseat McConnell. She served two terms as auditor and many political observers credit her with raising the office's profile during her tenure. Luallen also served in former Governor Paul Patton's administration for several years.

But the long-time public servant tells Kentucky Public Radio she will not enter the 2014 race.

Lawmaker Will Again Try to Lift Ban on Election Day Alcohol Sales

For the fifth time, a Northern Kentucky lawmaker will attempt to undo a ban on alcohol sales on election days.

Currently, no alcohol can be served or sold while polls are open. Representative Arnold Simpson has filed legislation to scrap the ban four times in the past. And Friday, he will once again present the proposal to an interim legislative committee.

Many states originally passed such bans in order to crack down on voter fraud and vote buying. Now, South Carolina is the only other state that still bans alcohol sales on election days.
