This week in Studio 619
Studio 619 airs Sunday mornings at ten on WFPL.
Slots Session
An eight-day, special session of the Kentucky General Assembly dominated by the issue of video slots at horse tracks is history. Watching it all unfold was Kentucky Public Radio’s Tony McVeigh.
Fairness Campaign
This month marks the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City, widely considered a pivotal moment for the gay right’s movement. Louisville’s Fairness Campaign will mark the anniversary tonight with a downtown vigil. Rick Howlett spoke with Fairness Campaign Director Chris Hartman about the vigil and the events of 40 years ago.
Parking Contracts
Since 2004, on-street parking enforcement in Louisville has been contracted to Lanier Parking. The Georgia-based company patrols the streets and writes tickets in exchange for a share of the fines. This summer, the Parking Authority of River City, or PARC, will re-evaluate its contract with Lanier as it prepares to take bids for a new agreement that will start October 1st. Gabe Bullard has more on parking, outsourcing and how both are related to the economy.
Charter Schools
During last year’s presidential election, Candidate Barack Obama talked about the virtues of charter schools. We look at how President Obama’s Secretary of Education wants to expand these schools and where Kentucky fits in — or doesn’t.
Seascape

Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright Edward Albee’s dramas have gripped audiences for decades. The director of Bunbury Theatre’s staging of Albee’s play “Seascape” talks about why the cast includes two actors playing lizards.
Sir Gawain and The Green Knight
King Arthur, Merlin, Sir Gawain, Gwenivere, Lancelot, most of us are all so familiar with these names that it’s easy to forget they are fictional characters from long-ago legends. For Eastern Kentucky University Professor Ordelle Hill, researching the legends is both a vocation and an avocation. Join WFPL’s Robin Fisher as she talks with Hill about the lure of King Arthur, the evolution of the legends and his latest book, Looking Westward: Poetry, Landscape, and Politics in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
