WFPL to Hold JCPS School Board Debates
The ballots for the school board races this fall are set and Jefferson County Public Schools has one of the largest candidate pools in recent history.
A total of 15 candidates are vying for three school board seats (districts 2, 4, and 7) and many say bettering student performance is a top priority, but how that's accomplished can be argued.
Nearly half the candidates are against the district's student assignment plan, while others are supportive of the board's decision. Kentucky's new accountability system has taken effect, and the board's decisions will be crucial while schools, students and teachers adjust.
Financial support for school board members has been dominated by the Jefferson County Teachers Association, which has spent over $1 million for eight candidates the past three school board races.
WFPL will hold debates of the three races in consecutive weeks at our studios at 619 S. Fourth St) beginning next Tuesday, September 18 at 6:30 pm. The debates are free and open to the public. Please arrive 15 min early.
If you have questions about the event or need more information call 502-814-6500.
