Louisville Cardinals Ranked No. 4 in AP Poll; Bracketology Projects a No. 1 Seed
As a topsy-turvy men's college basketball season winds down, the Louisville Cardinals have vaulted to No. 4 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
The Cardinals were ranked No. 8 last week. The Indiana Hoosier fell from No. 3 to No. 2. Gonzaga remains the nation's top ranked team. Louisville ended the regular season on a seven-game winning streak, last defeating the No. 24-ranked Notre Dame.
ESPN's Bracketology is now projecting Louisville as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, up a spot from a No. 2 seed last week. The Indiana Hoosiers, which won the Big 10 regular season title, remain a projected No. 1 seed in Bracketology. Gonzaga and Duke are the other two.
Kentucky is projected as a No. 11 seed—but entering the tournament through a play-in game. The defending national champion Wildcats were not projected in the tournament last week.
No other Kentucky teams appeared in the Top 25, though the Kentucky Wildcats—who defeated the then-No. 11 Florida Gators on Saturday—received five votes. Florida fell to No. 13 in this week's poll.
Western Kentucky can earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament by winning the Sun Belt championship on Monday night. The Hilltoppers play Florida International, coached by Richard Pitino, son of the Louisville Cardinals coach.
The Cardinals next play on Thursday in the Big East Tournament against either St. John's or Villanova.
The Wildcats next play on Friday in the Southeastern Conference Tournament against either Vanderbilt or Arkansas.
