Six Flags Says It Will Close Kentucky Kingdom

Officials with the Six Flags amusement park company says they will close the Kentucky Kingdom park in Louisville.

An announcement from the company, which is emerging from bankruptcy, says it was unable to reach a deal with the Kentucky State Fair Board on a new lease for the property, located at the Kentucky Exposition Center.

Kentucky State Fair Board President Harold Workman disputes that a new lease could not be negotiated; he says the company and the board had agreed to extend until April a bankruptcy court-imposed deadline to come up with a new agreement or part ways.

Six Flags President and CEO Mark Shapiro says the company will relocate Kentucky Kingdom employees and some of its 40 rides to other markets.

Siz Flags and the Louisville Public Library promised my 5 year-old son a free ticket to Kentucky Kingdom this spring if he did a certain amount of reading this month. He’s done his reading, and now it looks like they’re going to renege on their agreement.

Thanks for teaching my kid that he won’t get the promised rewards when he excels academically.

1) Do things, like reading, for personal reward rather than financial reward;

2) Aspects of corporate greed that lead some to bankruptcy and others to allow soemthing like KY Kingdom to leave
