Spurlock Coal Plant Air Permit OK'd

Environmental group The Sierra Club sued over the state-issued permit, arguing in part that the state should have required Eastern Kentucky Power Cooperative’s Spurlock plant to use lower sulfur coal.  But the judge found the state’s pollution control requirements adequate.  The more than 1300 megawatt-producing plant added sulfur dioxide control devices to two of its four generating units last year.  The Environmental Protection Agency says power plants account for nearly two thirds of the acid rain-causing chemical in our atmosphere.
